Takashi Amano (1954-2015) had worked internationally as a photographer and aquascape creator. As a photographer, he has established “ecological landscape photography”, which accurately records the appearance of nature on ultra-large format film, and has received high acclaim both in and outside Japan through photo collections and exhibitions.
Amano's ecological landscape photography is characterized by its detailed depiction of the environment and the vegetation that makes up the ecosystem in a single photograph, giving the viewer a realistic sense of nature. The main film used in these photographs is 8 x 20-inch format film (approx. 20 x 51 cm), the world's largest color reversal film. The descriptive power of the super-large format film, shot with a dedicated large format camera and lenses, is superior to that of the latest digital cameras in the high resolution, color reproduction, and gradation of color that only analog cameras can provide.
Amano, who was concerned about the current destruction of the global environment during his lifetime, continued to record the precious nature left not only in Japan but also in other parts of the world in order to convey the importance of nature to the next generation. In this photo panel exhibition, a large photo panel of Amano's masterpiece "Towering Kongo Sugi" and the large format camera he actually used to take the photo will be on display, as well as small framed ecological landscape and aquascape photographs for display and sale.
