Regarding the aged deterioration of Solar RGB Ballasts / Voluntary recall of ballasts with certain production lots
The ADA Solar series of hanging lighting fixtures has been launched for over 8 years ago, and the LED lighting with RGB elements is designed to withstand over 30,000 hours under standard conditions. However, due to the nature of RGB lighting—which requires more power than standard white LEDs and delivers high brightness in a hanging fixture—the ballast surface temperature inevitably becomes quite high during operation.
Factors such as the operating environment (voltage, temperature, and installation location) and usage hours can impact the internal electronic board of the ballast, and component degradation from heat may add stress, which could shorten the ballast's lifespan, even before the LED lighting reaches its designed end of life. Please understand that the ballast may need to be replaced before the LED's life expectancy.
In addition, apart from the aged deterioration issue, a very rare case has occurred in certain production lots, where improper solderingon the electronic board of the ballast led to a short circuit at the end of its life. This is an issue in white smoke emission from the surroundingresin because of these reasons. To ensure customer safety and confidence, we are initiating a recall for the following production lots of the ballastthat have been on the market for over 5 years. We will replace the ballast for customers who have continued using it without replacement.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused to our users and sales partners, and we
appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
1. Affected Models and Shipment Periods
108-037 Solar RGB
108-038 Solar RGB C plug
Issued lot: 18A26/18D26 Production period : February 2018 - May 2019
(18A26●/ 18D26●: The ballasts with the lot numbers marked with ● are excluded.)
*This recall applies only to ballasts that have been in use without any replacement.
2. Issue and Cause
Toward the end of the Solar RGB ballast’s lifespan, electrical discharge occurred between the boards, generating heat that caused the board and silicon filler in the ballast to heat up and emit smoke. Please note that the board and silicon filling are made of flame-retardant materials, and the selected materials will not ignite or spread fire.
3. Next Steps
The recall and replacement of issued ballast will be handled through ADA distributors. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation.
