One allure of cultivating emersed Cryptocoryne lies in appreciating the spathes unique to the Araceae family. C. fusca resembles C. longicauda, but they can be distinguished by the twist in their spathes.

It’s long tube and yellow spathe indicate that this species belongs to the C. cordata group. Although this spathe is visually attractive, it emits a foul odor when it opens. This odor is meant to attract pollinating insects.
