NATURE IN THE GLASS ‘ADA Trend 2020’

Editors of Aqua JournalEditors of Aqua Journal
Nature Aquarium Gallery showcases ADA’s latest and upcoming trends through its exhibitions. The world of Nature Aquarium, which reproduces nature in a tank, was started with “authentic aquascapes” where aquatic plants, rocks and driftwood are enclosed inside aquaria, and it has expanded to Biotope, Open-style Aquarium and Aqua-terrariums (Mizukusa Wall) where a layout is created both under and above water. And this year, ADA will launch its paludarium series in full swing, designed to recreate a tropical jungle in an enclosed glass container. Inspired by the “healing power” of nature and greenery, ADA has proposed a number of ideas to incorporate it into our everyday lives, and will introduce new ways of enjoying a variety of plants with DOOA along with ADA Nature Aquarium Goods as the main axis in coming years. We will feature those new trends in this article.

A triangular composition,
Presenting a peaceful place
For fish to rest

[Peaceful Forest]
Deep in the jungle, a variety of flourishing plants and numerous animals make their habitat. Although it’s a beautiful sight in the eyes of humans, there are turf wars and the laws of the jungle are a fact of life. The underwater world is no exception. I was hoping to offer fish a peaceful place to rest, even if just in a tank. I created a hideout for the fish by placing plant clusters on the left side in the layout and a large swimming space where they can swim freely on the right side. A peaceful forest was created as planned.

A lively aquascape
Featuring a pleasant atmosphere
With vivid colors of plants

[Soothing Colors]
This aquascape was created faithfully to the basics of Nature Aquarium for an aquascaping seminar. It uses aquatic plants mainly from BIO Mizukusa-no-Mori, Moss Bag and Wabi-Kusa Mat, thus apart from the shape of hardscaping driftwood, the layout itself can be relatively easily replicable. The point to note is that it’s a triangular composition layout with the focal point placed on the right side while stem plants are divided into two bushes creating a central opening to ease the oppressive impression. Watch the fish swimming around peacefully in the colorful, lively aquascape.

An aqua-terrarium depicting
A cooling sensation of a stream
With Sansui Stone and wild plants

[A Summertime Stream]
This aqua-terrarium was originally created to be showcased at an exhibition held last summer. It may seem out of season to feature it in the winter time, but I would like to introduce it as one of our new approaches using Mistzukusa Mist Wall 60. I initially planned on making a Sansui Stone layout of a V-shaped valley where streams of mist run down in a popular 60P tank (W60xD30xH36cm) combining with a Mizukusa Mist Wall 60. However, I changed the tank size to W60xD45xH36 (cm) because a 60P tank would be too small for Sansui Stone of that size. I was able to secure a space large enough for fish to swim around, as the tank has sufficient depth.
