Aquatic plants produce organic matter from carbon dioxide (CO₂) and water through photosynthesis, and use the organic matter as a source of energy to grow. Therefore, the addition of CO₂ to promote photosynthesis is essential for the healthy growth of aquatic plants. In this article, we discuss the CO₂ system, an indispensable device for safely supplying CO₂ to aquarium tanks.

In order to establish a cultivation method for aquatic plants, ADA has focused on developing CO₂ systems since its inception, and has created a revolutionary CO₂ system using a small CO₂ cartridge cylinder and CO₂ regulator. In 1985, ADA commercialized the world’s first CO₂ system that has made it easier for hobbyists to cultivate aquatic plants. In addition, it helps reduce the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere because the carbon dioxide gas filled in the small CO₂ cartridge cylinders is produced by refining carbon dioxide from industrial exhaust gas, and used for photosynthesis of aquatic plants. Another feature of ADA’s CO₂ system is its early adaptation of the components that ensure safety and performance, namely, the highly accurate speed controller and the floating needle that opens a small CO₂ cartridge cylinder securely.
