The Jungle Plants series is a line of living products that allow you to enjoy the unique appearance of plants such as leaves of aquatic plants and orchid flowers in glass containers. In each issue, our plant-loving writer takes a close-up look at one species from the product lineup and introduces its ecology in depth.
A lovely looking carnivorous plant
For this article, we took a close-up look at Drosera spatulata. It is a family of the carnivorous Drosera rotundifolia, and its cute size makes it a good match for small glass containers. It grows slowly with concentrically spreading leaves and can be used in a variety of glass container sizes, from the glass pot MARU 95 to the System Paluda 600. This species in tissue culture cups has long, magnificent roots extending into the medium, making it easy to grow the plant in good condition after planting. Since it does not like a nutrient-rich environment, Tropical River Soil was used for the substrate in this example to create an environment that allows growth through moisture and photosynthesis.
Closeup Point
The layout was designed to resemble a native plant growing in a damp rocky area.

We recommend dividing the plant into several groups and planting them separately.

❸The plant has trichome covered with mucilage to catch insects.
