ADA’s Research and Development Department, called the Green Lab, develops a wide variety of greenery products. In this article, we would like to share with you some interesting bits of trivia about the plants produced in the lab, and a part of their true nature we see from time to time.
Expressive Cryptocoryne
Cryptocoryne wendtii is an endemic species found in Western and Central Sri Lanka. Cryptocoryne wendtii is very well known in the aquatic plant hobby, but not much is known about its native habitat, and in fact, it is still a species of great mystery. It comes in a variety of forms, including green, brown, and hammered texture, and was once divided into four varieties. It is this enigmatic charm that has attracted enthusiasts and scholars for many years.

Today, it is easy to enjoy Cryptocoryne wendtii in all its expressions.

Aquatic plants with a sepia tone effect
Cryptocoryne wendtii should be planted in slightly darker areas in the middle ground or at the base of driftwood to take advantage of its shade tolerance. Unlike stem plants, Cryptocoryne wendtii grows slowly and takes a very long time to develop into a spectacular plant. However, C. wendtii ‘Brown’ and C. wendtii ‘MiOya’ will grow in sepia color as time goes by, giving the layout a unique warmth and a sense of stability that no other aquatic plants can create.
It is a leisurely grouping that can be achieved only with long term maintenance. It would be nice to see small cyprinidae family fish from Southeast Asia schooling for this kind of scene.

Green color Cryptocoryne wendtii
Cryptocoryne wendtii is also available in a type that thrives in green. C. wendtii ‘Green’, as the name suggests, develops slender green leaves, but some of them get a hint of faded brown, making it a good choice between foreground plants and driftwood or as a bridge to brown Cryptocoryne. C. wendtii ‘Real Green’ develops large, bright, wide leaves, making it ideal for areas where you want to ease shading or in front of background plants.
Thriving Cryptocoryne wendtii ‘Green’. It is relatively small and easy to handle among the C. wendtii varieties.

The Joys of Water Cultivation
Growing Cryptocoryne in the emersed condition is known as the European style. It is a highly specialized world, but you can enjoy its unique flowers and foliage. For beginners, we recommend starting with the C. wendtii variety. It is relatively easy to obtain, and it is easy to adapt to any substrate and water quality, making it hard to fail. Try glass container cultivation with Neo Glass Air or Glass Pot SHIZUKU, eanabling us to observe plants easily.
