Each group made a layout with Driftwood (Horn Wood, Old Black Wood, Branch Wood) and stones. Layout of Polish group was selected and re-arranged by Amano. Amano then created the layout applying golden ratio. You can see how the same materials can give a different impression by changing from convexity to concavity arrangement. In this case, Old Black Wood was arranged asymmetrically with left and right balance of 3:2 ratios, following the golden ratio principle. In order to keep this composition balance, many plants with dark color and the ones with large leave were intentionally placed on the left side of the tank. Amano’s layout is not only beautiful, but also easy to maintain. He planted the slow-growing shade plants such as Cryptocoryne sp, and Bolbitis heudelotti at the base part of driftwood, which is difficult part to maintain. Amano emphasize the importance of considering “how” you can maintain the aquascape easily for long-term as most of the seminar participants are professional aquarists offering a maintenance service. Amano told the participants that it is very important to understand the function and condition of microorganisms in the tank.
